Asbestos

Asbestos is a mineral fiber that has been used in many different building construction materials over the years including roofing shingles, ceiling and floor tiles, insulation, and paper and cement products, due to its fiber strength and heat resistance.  In fact, the word “asbestos” comes from a Greek word meaning inextinguishable or indestructible.

Unbeknownst to those exposed to these materials early on, exposure to asbestos increases the risk of developing lung disease.  The discovery of this link ultimately led to the banning of its use.  Although no longer manufactured and developed for use, some older homes still may be constructed partially of asbestos-containing materials (ACM).  The credentials of EES' staff include Certified Asbestos Building Inspector and Asbestos Management Planner for investigations of asbestos-containing materials and the writing of building control plans, as per the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA).  EES also has the ability to perform site sampling to assist in the identification of asbestos-containing materials (ACM).
